Y-type swing check valves are designed to prevent backflow in pipelines. The flow travels in a straight line through the valve, resulting in minimal pressure drop. As the fluid moves through the line, the disc swings into an open position. When back pressure occurs in the line, it holds the disc closed. Aluminum bronze swing check valves can be installed in both horizontal and vertical lines, but they must be oriented correctly according to the flow direction arrow marked on the valve body. These valves are intended for horizontal use only. When fluid pushes on the stopper in the correct direction, it swings open to allow flow. Conversely, if the flow reverses direction, the stopper swings shut. The check valve is not suitable for vertical applications, as gravity could interfere with the swinging motion.
