fiber optic industry is prosperous, even in some rural areas. In today’s fierce competition, people have higher requirements about the capacity of fiber optic. Fiber optic has advantages like high speed and large capacity, but in terms of fiber optic cable especially the fiber optic path cord is vulnerable, which needs special protection.
1. Physical protection of fiber optic.
Since it is inconvenient to operate, we need pay attention to protect the transitional part of fiber optic. The high-density fiber system should have a special welding end node and has the function to store the tails of fiber.
The union part of fiber optic cannot just pull and plug, each time when it is pulled or plugged, it needs retest for attenuation. Frequent pull and plug are easily cause damage to the union, so it is unsuitable to pull and plug union to achieve the switchover for fiber optic channel.
2. Fiber construction technology
Fiber optic protection is the main protection of EHV line; reliable power system and stable operation play an important role in the safe passage. And the optical transmission need intermediate terminal boxes, cable machine, cable layer and high-voltage lines and other processes. Moreover, the construction is complicated with high requirements for quality. Therefore, if there is an error in testing or installment, it will cause malfunction for protection device and affect the security and stability for the entire network operation.
3. How to protect the fiber in management.
With the protection and communication increasingly close, protection and communication in the interface is increasingly difficult to distinguish, if the problem cannot be solved from the system, it will directly affect the reliable operation of the optical fiber protection. Excessive bending is the main reason to cause loses foe fiber transmission, thus protecting the bending radius is an important factor to ensure fiber performance.
4. The issue of dual fiber channel.
Fiber protection for 220kV and above the grid, according to the above 220kV main line and the principle of dual protection requirements, pilot protection signal path also requires dual, high-frequency protection because it is in a different phase pinned coupling, so they can meet requirements for dual-channel, if you use two sets of optical fiber protection as the main protection for lines, the problem of the dual channel has limited the fiber protection of large-scale application.
The fiber protection has limitations in the long-distance and EHV transmission lines, it is still insufficient in construction and management. In the long run, with the gradual improvement of the fiber optic network, the construction process and protection products, fiber protection technology will occupy a dominant position line protection.
